Project Description
RARE, EXCEPTIONAL, UTTERLY FRENCH

THE MAKING OF A HEDON CIGAR
Aside from Cuba, there is only one other place on earth where both the filler – the tobacco inside the cigar – and the wrapper, its outer cover, are grown on the same territory. This is the Navarre region, at the foot of towering Pyrenees of south-western France. But, unlike Cuba, in Navarre only a single variety of tobacco, specially cultivated and honed to thrive in this landscape, is grown for both components.
It’s because of this that Hedon tobacco leaves attain a superior colour and quality, making them incomparable to other varieties and boasting unique organoleptic characteristics that contribute to the complexity of the final cigar.
Every March tobacco seeds are sown in a greenhouse, and carefully tended for two months before the seedlings are transplanted into the ground. Here they are cultivated in both the open air and under the shelter of light nets, ensuring a balanced and harmonious ripening for any leaves destined for the precious wrapper.

THE TERROIR

PLACE, TIME AND A UNIQUE SAVOIR-FAIRE
Navarre enjoys an abundance of pure mineral water springing naturally from the Pyrenees; a purity evident in every Hedon cigar. By accurately monitoring soil moisture and real-time water requirements of the plants, an advanced irrigation system guarantees that the plants’ water needs are met in an optimal manner.
Here, a single variety of tobacco, perfectly adapted to the soil and climate, is grown and destined both for the filler, binder and wrapper of Hedon cigars, allowing superior colour uniformity and an appearance that are absolutely incomparable and stand out from all others, with unique organoleptic characteristics.
From the use of small automated dryers, and farms fully self-sufficient in their energy consumption, every detail has been catered for to enhance every single batch of the harvest.
MASTERFULLY CRAFTED BY ARTISANS
Completely hand-made according to traditional techniques, each Hedon cigar matches ancestral savoir-faire with advanced agronomic technology, representing the fusion of the best cigar tradition with modern agricultural research, in the wake of contemporary French luxury culture.
This tobacco-growing expertise has been developed through an utterly French agronomic culture; inspired by Cuban know-how and honed with a deeper technological and scientific knowledge.

PREMIUM HANDCRAFTED CIGARS
After two months, the dried tobacco is ready for fermentation, which takes place so as to allow a linear evolution of flavour. In fact, fermentation is required in order to burn the natural sugars found in the starch of the leaf at the time of combustion. Perfect control of the fermentation process is essential, to obtain a product that can perfectly release its complex aroma and perfume.
After fermentation the leaves are sorted and stacked, and left to quietly mature for at least three years. At the right moment, they are selected and processed by Hedon’s skilled artisans. Each cigar is rolled by hand with the utmost care, using exclusively whole leaves. At the end of this artisanal manufacturing process, every Hedon cigar is draw tested to guarantee maximum quality.
