Project Description
MICHTER’S DISTILLERY
Cost be damned!

THE LEGACY
Michter’s whiskey has a history dating back to 1753. This rich heritage places it among the oldest distilleries in America. The story began with John Shenk in Schae!erstown, PA, under the name “Shenks.”
Over the years, it evolved into “Bomberger’s” and eventually emerged as the iconic Michter’s in the 1950s, a name formed by combining the owner’s sons, Michael and Peter.
Today, Michter’s boasts three remarkable locations nestled in the heart of Kentucky:
• An impressive 87,000 square foot distillery in the Shively section of Louisville.
• The architecturally significant Fort Nelson building in downtown Louisville.
• Michter’s farm and operation sprawl across 205 acres in Springfield, Kentucky
Michter’s unwavering commitment to crafting exceptional whiskey has kept their legacy alive through the centuries.

THE MICHTER’S DIFFERENCE
What sets Michter’s whiskey apart is the meticulous attention to detail in their production process:

Cooperage:
Michter’s ensures the wood in their barrels is thoroughly dried for up to 18-48 months, enhancing natural properties and flavour.

Toasting & Charring:
Barrels are toasted before charring, creating a caramelised “red line” for added depth and colour.

Low Entry Proof:
Entering barrels at 103 proof allows sugars to dissolve more readily, resulting in a smoother flavour and richer mouthfeel.

Heat Cycling:
This rare practise intensifies flavour, though it comes at the cost of more evaporation.

Chill Filter:
A selective chill filter protocol preserves flavour and aroma.
