Project Description
THE ART OF WHISKY
Exceptional single cask whiskies find creative expression in an exclusive partnership between LMDW and Navigate World Whisky.
INTRODUCING PARTNERS
Constantly searching for unique whiskies, La Maison du Whisky has been bottling exceptional single cask whiskies under their Artist Series for over 10 years. Now, for the first time, La Maison du Whisky has decided to offer its partners the opportunity to exclusively bottle the results of this meticulous research.
It is through the Partners range that this collaboration is taking shape. La Maison du Whisky is offering a choice of carefully selected casks, as well as the opportunity to personalise the label through a partnership with an artist whose work will be used to showcase the bottle.
DREAM INTO THE DISTANCE
BY JOHANN S VAN DER WALT
Inspired by the power of the ocean and the relentless forces of nature, ‘Dream into the Distance’ is the striking artwork gracing the inaugural bottling in the Navigate World Whisky Partners series.
The force of nature certainly comes to the fore, echoing the seaside location of Bowmore, where the iconic maturation vaults are exposed to the relentless whip of salt-laden ocean winds. There’s also a distinct sense of motion, an echo of the restless seas of Loch lndaal, which lies at the heart of Islay.
THE INAUGURAL BOTTLING
The inaugural bottling for the Partners series between Navigate World Whisky and La Maison du Whisky is represented by a big Islay cask. It encapsulates our joint bottling philosophy for exceptional single cask whiskies.
Bowmore is one of the iconic distilleries among those from Islay (known for their peated whiskies), and the South African artist involved in the artwork featured on the label captured the true essence of this wonderful single malt. Founded in 1779, Bowmore – the oldest licensed distillery on Islay – encapsulates ‘the art of time’ in its fine single malt Scotch whiskies.

TRACES #4
BY TANJA TRUSCOTT
As human beings we have a complex relationship with the spaces around our urban centres. On the one hand we are often moved by the spirit of an untouched space, yet on the other hand we leave traces of our presence almost everywhere: in the meandering footpath, the silhouette of silos, the rectangular field, a running fence or the electrical cables overhead.
When I leave the city behind it is these traces I notice and want to capture, as these vestiges of our presence bring together the past and the future in the present landscape – creating and recreating the genus loci, or spirit of the place.
PARTNERS 2.1
The Balminoch distillery had previously been a family-run farm distillery, but after the Excise Act of 1823, became one of the first legally run distilleries. It is an isolated distillery, with very few official bottlings. The name derives from the Gaelic ‘Am Baile Meadhnach’ meaning ‘the middle farm’. Like many others, it produces a single malt predominantly used in blends such as Peter Dawson and Johnnie Walker. The Balmenach distillery closed in 1993 and then reopened in 1997 when it was bought by the Inver House and started production again in 1998.
The rare versions of Balmenach are released generally by independent bottlers, such as LMDW in the Partners range.

SWARTLAND SUNSET
BY TANJA TRUSCOTT
The Swartland is a beautiful but often overlooked region north of Cape Town consisting of small towns set amongst rolling hills.
During spring the hills are emerald green with newly planted wheat. A few months later the hills have turned to pancake colours, ranging from deep caramel to flaxen. In the dry summer heat, the combine harvesters move in and for a few weeks the air is thick with chalk and dust. This painting is a response to the dramatic fiery sunsets experienced after the wheat harvest.
PARTNERS 2.2
Located in the town of Rothes in the Speyside region, the Glen Grant distillery was founded in 1840. It produces a truly elegant single malt which admirably supports very long ageing. This especially mature version, aged in first-fill bourbon casks, is a brilliant illustration of this ability to age. Honeyed, fruity, rich, exotic and even roasted, it also shows a unity of tone from start to finish.
